For years, CMC has been trying to address the literal elephant in the room: the rise of obesity on campus. Many administrators have noticed this phenomenon and believe it’s time to turn things around.
Fortunately, College President/fitness advisor “Hunky” Hiram Chodosh was hired to tackle the issue. After transforming the culinary scene on campus by limiting Collins’ menu to iceberg lettuce and yogurt, Chodosh was ready for more “Health in Action.” His newest project, the Marathon Challenge, pushes students to their limits in the quest for a healthier lifestyle.
“We, as a community, can do better,” says Chodosh. “We should be able to look in the mirror and say ‘I love myself!’ All we need to do is commit.”

Some thirty eager students have agreed to participate in the trial run of Chodosh’s marathon program to follow his lead. Many of them say the physical exertion is challenging, but rewarding. Runner Steve Jameson CM ’18 noted, “I’ve lost six inches and gone down four sizes. I’m not done yet, but I have hope now. And it’s all because of the Marathon Challenge.” So far, Jameson has run sixteen miles (with only eight miles of Segway), and says he feels ready for more.
Chodosh confirmed to The Golden Antlers that the rumors of a reality TV show coming to campus to document the challenge are true. “We are going for a fully intense, emotional boot-camp type entertainment experience,” he says. “But the most important thing is, obviously, shedding those pounds.”
