As to how this question was published in the first place:
From one of the two (Asian) writers of the question,
I’d like to address the commentary on the question about fetishizing Asian groups. I, the writer, am Asian and have witnessed fetishization of my friends and family members throughout my life. This question is meant to subvert oppression rather than feed into it.
In general, we believe that writers should be allowed to write questions that deal with their identities and communities. Editors should be allowed to prioritize and publish questions that deal with their identities and communities, too. At some level, the main driver for this question going through all our editing steps was that it was written and advocated for by its Asian writers and an Asian editor.
We believe that the question has caused more harm than good, and in recognition of that, we have taken it down. We are very sorry—it was an obvious failure to include it in any final version.
