With so many a cappella groups running amok on campus, vocally gifted students can feel overwhelmed with options. We’ve picked some of our favorite crooners’ clubs, songbirds’ societies, and troubadors’ troupes to help choose which faction to align yourself with in the coming wars.
Which A Cappella Group is the Best Fit for You?
Slipnote
This hardcore, gritty, and brutal a cappella group loves to perform heavy metal, but without the guitar, bass, or drums. If you’re really loud or are from Iowa, you’ll fit right in!
My Singing Monsters
This assortment of quirky creatures has crossed The Seam from Monster World to ours in order to perform their music. If you’re covered in fur, are a sentient rock, or only know how to sing one note, this is the group for you!
The Acetones
United by their shared major in chemistry (and subsequent lack of time to socialize with non-chemistry majors), the Acetones have built up quite the repertoire. They are famous for their arrangements of “The O-Chem Blues” and “The Elements Song.” If you are a chemistry major, this is your only option!
The Panettones
This avante-grade group of Italian fruitcakes pushes the boundaries of what it means to perform “A Cappella.” If you’re a sweet bread containing candied orange and raisins, have no mouth, but must scream, consider joining The Panettones!
The Deftones
To promote their upcoming tenth studio album, Another One, The Deftones have come to Claremont to perform their greatest hits a cappella for a semester. If your name is Chico Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham, or Frank Delgado, you’re already in The Deftones. Why are you reading this article?
Just One Guy But He’s Really Good
Born with a rare genetic mutation that endowed him with three lungs and seven vocal cords, Justin Singh and his one-man a cappella group, the Singhers, have been taking the a cappella circuit by storm. Although you’ll never be good enough to perform with Justin, there are plenty of other, less talented a cappella groups out there to join. Come to A Cappella Auditions this [date] at [time]!
