Happy regular Wednesday from me, a coal miner! There is nothing special to me about today, I am having a regular Wednesday at the mines.
Some people say back to the grindstone as a metaphor, but for me I am grinding actual stones, and those stones are coal, in the mines, where I work.
What’s that you say? I have a dark ashy smudge on my forehead? Oh no, it’s not for religious purposes, it is coal dust, an occupational hazard from being a coal miner. It’s Ash Wednesday you say? The Catholic day of observance?
You know it’s hard for me to observe any days because I am usually down in the mines where it is dark and difficult to observe anything beyond the scope of my GLC-6 1.78 watt mining headlamp.
I hope you guys have a nice day, though! It’s back to the minecart for me where I will slowly trundle down into the earth, further and further, on a rickety old mine track powered by me and my miner friend alternating pushing up and down on the old-timey pump thingy that makes the cart go.
Maybe today I’ll strike gold! Worst case, at least I will strike coal. From this old grimey coal hound to all you Catholic folk up there in the sunlight, happy Wednesday!
