Greek Student Outraged at 5C Prohibition of Greek Life

Friday, Mar 22, 2024 – When Adonis Thesaloinikos Stavros the third embarked on his semester-long exchange program at Pomona college, he was hoping and expecting to find a welcoming environment for Greek students.

At other universities he had visited, Greek culture, or perhaps more profoundly “Greek Life,” is promulgated proudly: rows of houses display Greek letters, and for the Greek students that reside within them, they are referred to as “brothers and sisters,” a gesture that demonstrates the comradery with those from the southern European peninsula.

But upon arriving at the 5Cs, Adonis was jarred by anti-Greek sentiment at the Claremont Colleges. “I heard that Greek life was banned here, and was shocked. As a Greek exchange student, why is my life banned?”

At the Golden Antlers, we cherish the fact that we are all Greek. Each and every one of us. Some more than others. And as Greeks, we will not have “Greek Life” be prohibited. Other schools proudly celebrate Greece and Greek history. It is sad the 5C’s find the Greek government such a threat to their establishment that they must ban it. You’re all probably lame virgins.
