Girl Diagnosed with FOMO after Missing Pirate Party

Scripps sophomore Gemmi Blek was one of few who missed Pirate Party this past weekend. After forgetting to get her wristband 6 meals in a row from Collins last week, she realized that she would not be able to get into the party of the year.

“Collins sucks, I never go there. That’s why I didn’t even think twice about getting my wrist band to be honest. But like now I wish that I would have endured pasta express one more time just for that wrist band,” says Blek.

Blek spent most of her Saturday afternoon looking at all of her friend’s snap stories of the party while watching reruns of The Office because she did not have much else to do. After hour 6 of marathoning Netflix from her bed, she began feeling ill. Thinking it was just a cold, she tried to sleep it off; However, when she woke up the next morning, something was not right.

“Scrolling through insta and seeing squad pics at pirate party was when things got rough for me. My body started tensing up and all I could taste was salt. That’s when I decided to go Student Health Services to see what really was going on.”

Unfortunately, this is not the first these symptoms have appeared. “Doctors” at Student Health Services have been examining similar cases for years now and have realized that it is a relatively new condition called “fear of missing out” or FOMO for short.

As of now, there are 12 current cases of FOMO among Claremont students stemming from Pirate Party.

“I mean I am glad to know that I am not alone in this, but like it still doesn’t take away from the fact that I missed the party of the year,” Blek writes to us bedridden in Toll.

We here at the Golden Antlers wish Gemmi a quick and speedy recovery before finals!
